Sharon Halliwell descended into the basement of Halliwell Manor; her eldest son was out with a few of his companions practicing magic, and her husband and youngest child were visiting family in the human world, leaving her to enjoy a bit of personal time.
Passing by the heavily enchanted door that led to her son's private study (she couldn't quite recall why that particular room was so important to him) she arrived at another heavy door on the far side of the cellar, the potion room.
With a wave of her hand the door unlocked itself and swung open, descending a small set of stairs she entered a cavernous space. The smooth rock walls were carved by magic from the earth around them, and supported by immense stone columns, leading up to the domed roof of the chamber. A few small windows placed at ground level allowed light to spill onto the floor, but the main source of illumination came from four eternally lit torches along the walls.
She glided to her cauldron in the middle of the room, and with a flick of her wrist the fire beneath it was ablaze. Humming a cheerful tune to herself she began to gather ingredients from the shelves that lined the walls of the room.
A massive book of recipes sat on a pedestal next to her worktable, as she returned with the ingredients the book flipped open to the page she needed. Sharon was attempting to recreate a powerful mixture that, if brewed correctly, could grant the souls of the dead a physical form.
Drawing her wand from her pocket, she began calling the ingredients forth into the bubbling brew,
"Branch of elder" she recited, "burned to unleash full potency" with a burst of flame the branch was incinerated and fell into the cauldron.
"Adder's venom" she noted, "taken from a newborn serpent"
The venom reacted with the potion, sending a spiral of purple smoke into the air,
Sharon continued to work over the potion, adding flashes of magic and stirring the brew with her wand, streams of energy would occasionally burst from the cauldron. Undaunted she continued her work, till she finally reached the final ingredient,
"Tears of the innocent" she whispered, "taken from a moment of true sorrow, let the memories of life be returned to them, so they may once again take shape"
She upended the bottle and watched as the silvery liquid dropped towards the cauldron, its introduction turned the entire mixture to a silvery gloss.
A small hiss drew her attention away from the completed mixture, she looked up to see a small black blob hanging from the ceiling of the chamber, staring at her with bright crimson eyes, unfazed by the intruder, Sharon hovered up and began prodding it with her wand, "Silly little dark matter demon" she chuckled, "how did you get down here?"
The demon hissed and swiped at her, bearing a row of razor sharp fangs, startled, Sharon fired a small repelling charm at it, knocking the demon from the ceiling
and right into her cauldron.
nonono" she cursed, throwing various ingredients into the potion to try and stabilize it, steam and spirals of red smoke rose from the contents.
The doorbell rang, breaking her concentration once more; she looked up wondering who would actually bother ringing, just as her potion exploded
Still muttering curses under her breath, Sharon walked upstairs to answer the door, her singed figure trailed smoke, and passing Jeremy she noted him trying to swat another demon with a broom, obviously the source of her unwanted intruder from earlier. A flick of her wand dispatched it, and she arrived at the door and opened it.
Seconds later and ear piercing scream reverberated through the briars surrounding Halliwell Manor.
Jonathan Halliwell focused and raised his hand like a conductor cueing a crescendo, a rippling wall of silvery white light sprang up with the movement of his arm,
With a smirk, Ranga hurled a blast of ice at it, rapidly forming into several crystalline daggers, her attack was for naught however, as the barrier dissolved them into a harmless mist. Repeated attempts by Victor and Emma to break the barrier also failed,
"Your defensive magic has gotten really impressive!" Shadow noted, "You used to not be able to keep back Ranga's frost daggers!"
Suddenly Ted and Victor appeared on his other side; Jonathan whirled and threw up a barrier of crimson shadow energy, deflecting their attacks, the two barriers rose up and formed a dome over Jonathan, completely cutting him off from attack.
Shadow then noticed something strange beginning to happen, the conflicting elements of light and dark were repelling each other, causing cracks of orange light to form around the barrier as the elements cancelled each other out, streams of light and darkness flowed from Jonathan's palms in an attempt to hold the barrier, veins of energy slowly crept up his arms, causing his left eye to glow crimson, and the right gold.
The veins of light touched in the middle of his chest and he finally lost control, the barrier flowed back into him, covering him in a web of orange lightening, which he released with a loud cry, sending orange energy bolts screaming at his opponents,
Dazed and weak Jonathan staggered towards Shadow,
"What was THAT?" she wondered,
"Light and dark naturally counterbalance one another, making it very difficult to control both at one time, the barriers started to annihilate each other on contact, and the resulting energy feedback shorted out my spell" he panted,
Jonathan suddenly shook and his pentacle choker glowed with crimson light, a deafening shriek emitted from nowhere,
"What the Fu
" Shadow began, but Jonathan cut her off,
"That was Mom's emergency summoning charm" Jonathan said, "We've got to get to the manor, NOW"
Before Ranga could summon a portal Jonathan called upon his powers of darkness, "Velox Tenebris Concitus!" Before they could so much as scream they were engulfed by pillars of shadow and hurtling into the void.
Streams of darkness impacted the ground around Halliwell manor, Ranga and shadow groaned as they picked themselves up, unused to such a rapid method of transport,
A bolt of shadow moving almost too fast to see hurtled for the ground, in a flash it re-formed into Jonathan's figure, he hit the ground running, still trailing shadow as his body reformed. Hot on his heels they made for the front doors, but upon entering they all froze in a stunned silence behind Jonathan.
Sharon was on the ground hugging a woman and crying with joy, beside them stood a man with sapphire blue hair and eyes,
Shadow's eyes went from the portrait on the stairs, to the woman, and back again, "no way
" she gasped,
